President Bola Tinubu underscored his administration’s unwavering commitment to deploying resources strategically to uplift critical sectors impacting the welfare of Nigerians, even in the face of opposition from smugglers and what he termed as “old subsidy beneficiaries.”
Since taking office on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu has embarked on bold reforms, including discontinuing petroleum subsidies and unifying foreign exchange rates to eliminate long-standing arbitrage practices.
Addressing members of the Forum of State Chairmen of the All Progressives’ Congress at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges ahead, particularly from vested interests resisting change. However, he reaffirmed his government’s dedication to defending the treasury for the people’s benefit, stressing the importance of giving hope and progress to the nation.
Highlighting the administration’s progressive agenda, President Tinubu outlined initiatives such as student loans, a national consumer credit system, and social welfare programs for the unemployed and graduates. He emphasized the inclusivity of his government’s programs, ensuring that every Nigerian finds a place of belonging and prosperity in the country.
President Tinubu also emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in Nigeria’s economic growth, revealing plans for large-scale livestock farming and mechanized agriculture to drive self-sufficiency and economic diversification. These efforts align with the recommendations of the National Livestock Reforms Committee, chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, which advocated for a Ministry of Livestock Resources to address longstanding conflicts between farmers and herders.
Furthermore, President Tinubu urged party members to actively engage in citizen mobilization for National Identification Number (NIN) registration, underscoring the importance of accurate data for effective governance and social security interventions.
In response, APC National Chairman Ganduje announced plans to establish the Progressive Institute of Policy and Development, aimed at enhancing policy formulation and development for the party and the broader Nigerian public.
The Forum of APC State Chairmen reiterated their unwavering support for President Tinubu’s economic programs, signaling a united front in the pursuit of Nigeria’s prosperity and progress under his leadership.
