President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials in a helicopter crash.
On Sunday, President Raisi and nine others perished when their helicopter crashed due to adverse weather conditions in the mountains near the Azerbaijan border. The tragic incident was confirmed by officials and state media on Monday.
Rescue teams began searching for the missing helicopter on Sunday afternoon, and by Monday morning, relief workers had located the crash site and identified the bodies of the president and other passengers, according to State TV reports.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing President Raisi as a dedicated leader who was fervently committed to Iran’s development. The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu Condoles with Iran over Passing of President Raisi,’ conveyed Tinubu’s grief over the incident.
While offering his sympathies to the bereaved families, President Tinubu prayed for the continued peace, stability, and prosperity of Iran.
On behalf of the Nigerian government and its people, President Tinubu assured the Islamic Republic of Iran of Nigeria’s unwavering support and prayers during this period of mourning.
