Tragic news struck the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom as Chidimma Ezenyili, a devoted caregiver, passed away just two days after collapsing on February 22.
According to reports from News Express on Wednesday, Mrs. Ezenyili collapsed while attending to Ian Hale, an elderly woman at Scott Road. Ezenyili, a former lawyer in Nigeria, had been caring for Hale for the past five months, showcasing her commitment to her responsibilities even in the face of personal challenges.
Catherine Segal, Hale’s daughter, recounted the heartbreaking events, highlighting Ezenyili’s unwavering dedication despite feeling unwell. “She wasn’t feeling well but didn’t want to let my dad down,” Segal stated, emphasizing Ezenyili’s selflessness.
Tragically, Ezenyili collapsed on February 22, prompting immediate efforts to save her life. Despite the swift response from the community and medical professionals, it was discovered that she had suffered a severe brain haemorrhage. She was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where she was placed on life support at the neurosciences critical care unit.
Saul, Segal’s husband, sadly revealed, “Life support was turned off two days later, on February 24, and she passed with her husband by her side.” Ezenyili, known affectionately as Suzy, had dreams of securing a better future for her daughter, Mandy, by providing her with opportunities in the UK that she herself never had in Nigeria.
Her untimely passing left a void in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, leaving behind cherished memories of her compassionate nature and unwavering dedication to her loved ones and her profession.
