Al Ettifaq has reached an agreement to terminate Jordan Henderson’s contract after just six months, paving the way for a potential move to Ajax. The Dutch club is set to present the midfielder with an 18-month contract, with the option of extending it further, and is dispatching a delegation to Manchester this afternoon for talks with Henderson’s representatives.
According to a report made by Sky Sport News, Al Ettifaq, based in Saudi Arabia, agreed to terminate Henderson’s contract swiftly, facilitating his potential move to Ajax. Henderson, who played 19 times for Al Ettifaq under the coaching of former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, had expressed a desire to leave, and the club, respecting his decision, accelerated the departure process to enable business in the current transfer window.
Marcel van der Kraan, a Dutch football expert, shared insights into the rapid developments, stating that the excitement is palpable in Amsterdam among Ajax fans. The potential deal was initially structured for 18 months but might evolve into a permanent two-and-a-half-year arrangement. Henderson is expected in Amsterdam on Thursday morning for a medical examination.
While there is no transfer fee involved, Henderson is required to buy out his existing contract with Al Ettifaq, necessitating a significant financial settlement. Ajax is reportedly poised to offer Henderson one of the most substantial wage packages in the club’s history, reflecting the significance of the potential transfer.
