The Peoples Democratic Party has asserted its dominance over Rivers State, declaring Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the party as the driving force behind the state’s political landscape.
According to a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party maintains that all legislators who switched to the All Progressives Congress have forfeited their seats, citing constitutional provisions.
YEPSNG reported that the Rivers State Government dismissed the APC Caretaker Committee’s call for impeachment proceedings against Fubara.
Ologunagba highlighted that legal considerations overwhelmingly favor the PDP, dismissing the APC’s claims as futile attempts to undermine Nigeria’s constitution.
He emphasized, “The former lawmakers who joined the APC are now former members, as clarified by Section 109(1)(g) of the Constitution.”
Ologunagba urged both the APC and the legislators to abandon any hopes of their party assuming control of Rivers State, stating that the quorum of the House of Assembly will be determined by the remaining lawmakers until bye-elections fill the vacancies.
