The Progressive Governors’ Forum, a coalition of state governors within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has demonstrated its unwavering support for the Super Eagles by generously donating a whopping sum of N200 million.
The announcement of this generous gesture was made by the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, on Wednesday, adding an extra boost to the morale of the Nigerian football team as they gear up for their crucial semi-final clash against South Africa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
In a statement issued by Diana-Mary Nsan, the minister’s special adviser on media, Enoh expressed heartfelt appreciation to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who spearheads the forum, and all its members for their prompt response to his call for support in motivating the team.
Enoh further confirmed that the N200 million donation has already been disbursed to the Super Eagles, underscoring the forum’s commitment to rallying behind the national team in their quest for continental glory.
“I want to thank the Progressive Governors’ Forum under the leadership of Governor Uzodimma of Imo for rallying behind the Super Eagles with a generous donation of N200 million,” Enoh remarked.
He continued, “The Super Eagles have exhibited remarkable dedication and resilience throughout every match, indicating their readiness to once again conquer the continent and bring home the prestigious Cup of Nations. Therefore, it is imperative that we throw our full support behind them as they carry the weighty responsibility of making Nigeria proud.”
As anticipation mounts for the highly anticipated showdown between Nigeria and South Africa at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake, the stage is set for an electrifying encounter reminiscent of past clashes between the two football giants.
With memories of previous encounters, including Nigeria’s triumphant victory over South Africa in the 2000 AFCON semi-finals and the 2019 AFCON quarter-finals, the Super Eagles are poised to script yet another chapter of success in their AFCON journey.
