Chinese national abducted in Kwara State has been released from captivity

After enduring nearly ten harrowing days in the clutches of kidnappers, the Kwara State Police Command orchestrated a daring rescue mission, liberating Mr. PengChao Zhang, a Chinese national, from the depths of a forest in the state.

Zhang, affectionately known as Williams Kaka in business circles, was freed from captivity on Tuesday, thanks to the relentless efforts of police operatives and vigilant members of the community. Following intensive searches and meticulous investigations, the police tactical team, in collaboration with local vigilantes, successfully located and extricated Zhang from his captors’ hideout nestled deep within the forest.

The ordeal began when Zhang fell victim to a brazen abduction orchestrated by a gang of six armed assailants at the Cherish Guest House in Eyenkorin, on the outskirts of Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State. Having lodged at the guest house for an extended period while conducting business, Zhang’s peaceful stay was abruptly shattered by the ruthless actions of his captors.

The Kwara State Police Command officially confirmed the successful rescue operation in a statement released by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, on Wednesday.

“The Kwara State Police Command is delighted to announce a significant breakthrough in the recent kidnapping incident that shook the community of Eyenkorin, Ilorin,” the statement read.

Detailing the sequence of events, the statement continued, “On the 10th of March, 2024, six armed men forcibly abducted Mr. PengChao Zhang, a Chinese national who was lodging at the Cherish Guest House in Eyenkorin, Ilorin. This alarming incident triggered widespread concern and fear among residents.”

“Through meticulous planning and concerted efforts, the Command’s Tactical Teams and vigilant community members executed a series of strategic searches and investigations, culminating in the successful rescue of the victim in the early hours of March 19, 2024,” the statement further elaborated.
