Comedian Bovi didn’t hold back in assigning blame to Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro for his team’s loss against Cote d’Ivoire in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
In a disappointing finale, the Super Eagles succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassane Quattara Olympic Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday night. Goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller sealed the victory for the host nation.
Taking to his X account to express his frustration, Bovi squarely pointed the finger at coach Peseiro’s tactics, asserting that his defensive approach was to blame for the defeat. The 44-year-old comedian emphasized Nigeria’s footballing heritage of flair, fluidity, and attacking prowess, which he felt was lacking in the team’s strategy.
In his post, Bovi wrote, “Blame the coach. We are a footballing nation of flare. Fluidity, through passes, dribbles, attack. Not all out defence. Even if we’d won, I would still be pissed. The style was evidently alien to the players.”
Bovi’s critique highlighted the disappointment felt by many fans and underscored the importance of aligning the team’s tactics with Nigeria’s rich footballing tradition.
