The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) clarified recent statements regarding the arrest of Apostle Theophilus Ebonyi, the general overseer of the Faith on the Rock Ministry International, stating that he was indeed arrested in June 2023 over fraud allegations but was subsequently released on bail.

In response to Ebonyi’s video denying his arrest, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale reiterated that the pastor’s claim was not accurate. Oyewale explained that Ebonyi had been arrested in June 2023 for suspected financial crimes and was granted bail thereafter.

The EFCC’s clarification comes after Ebonyi’s video surfaced, disputing the agency’s earlier statement about his arrest, which may have led to the misconception that the incident occurred recently.

Oyewale emphasized that while Ebonyi may not currently be in EFCC custody, he was indeed detained previously in connection with ongoing investigations into financial misconduct.
