Lagos, Nigeria – March 6, 2024 – As we celebrate International Women’s Month, it’s essential to recognize the invaluable contributions of women in Nigeria and Africa, particularly those who have been pivotal in the film industry, sharing stories that resonate deeply with audiences. Female creators have been instrumental in shaping the creative landscape, and Netflix is proud to highlight their extraordinary impact both onscreen and behind the scenes, propelling the industry to new global heights.

In a collaborative effort with Mo Abudu of EbonyLife TV, leading female film producers, directors, actors, and members of the Nigerian film community gathered in Lagos, Nigeria for the ‘Her Voice, Our Story’ International Women’s Day event. The event celebrated the unique perspectives and remarkable stories of African women in the creative industry, featuring insightful discussions from prominent figures such as Netflix Director of Content in Africa, Dorothy Ghettuba, alongside Bolanle Austen-Peters, Hamisha Daryani Ahuja, Chichi Nworah, and Peace Hyde.

Dorothy Ghettuba, Netflix’s Director of Content in Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed the company’s commitment to representing diverse narratives, stating, “At Netflix, we are passionate not only about the stories we tell but also about the storytellers and the audiences we serve. This event, aimed at honoring inspiring women in both visible and behind-the-scenes roles, heralds an exciting lineup of upcoming films and series with a strong female presence. The slate includes:

  • Òlòtūré: The Journey (series) – Following a young journalist’s undercover mission as a sex worker in Nigeria, this gripping series delves into the fight against corruption and the pursuit of justice.
