On Monday, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, officially inaugurated the newly elected 21 local government chairmen. Candidates from the All Progressives Congress emerged victorious in the Saturday elections, as declared by the state electoral commission.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, and was attended by the governor alongside other high-ranking political figures. The state’s Chief Judge, Umar Abubakar, administered the oath of office to the chairmen, who will serve a three-year term.
In his address, Governor Idris urged the newly sworn-in officials to prioritize the delivery of democratic benefits to their communities. He emphasized, “Now that you have taken office, I expect you to begin your duties immediately and make a tangible impact at the grassroots level.”
He also instructed the chairmen to return to their respective localities and ensure their councillors are promptly sworn in for effective governance across all wards in the state. The governor assured the chairmen of his full support, stating, “I promise to work with all of you 100 percent.”
Additionally, Governor Idris encouraged the chairmen to actively engage with their communities, ensuring that their leadership benefits everyone under their jurisdiction. The state government provided the chairmen and their deputies with Hilux operational vehicles to aid in their duties.
