In a dramatic turn of events, six traders found themselves in the legal spotlight as they were arraigned at the Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos Island, accused of assaulting renowned actress Lizzy Anjorin.

The genesis of this legal saga traces back to a contentious incident where Anjorin was allegedly targeted by the traders over a misunderstanding regarding a payment made to a vendor in November last year, dispelling earlier allegations of gold theft.

Facing the weight of the law, Qudus Jokogbola, Siri Olawale, Edu Shakirat, Fausat Mohammed, Kafayat Ahmed, and Opere Morenike were charged by the police with conspiracy, breach of peace, and causing bodily harm.

Isholla detailed the alleged offense, claiming that the defendants forcibly pushed Anjorin, inflicting bodily harm and disrupting public peace, thereby violating several sections of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Pleading their innocence, the defendants stood firm, denying the charges leveled against them.

In defense of their clients, the defense counsel, led by their spokesperson, highlighted the defendants’ status as market traders, urging the court to grant them bail under lenient conditions.

In a decisive move, Magistrate A. A. Paul granted bail to each defendant in the sum of N200,000, requiring one surety per defendant to meet the same bail amount and fulfill additional conditions, including proof of residency and tax payment to the Lagos State government.

Pending the fulfillment of bail conditions, the defendants were ordered to be remanded in a correctional facility, with the case scheduled for mention on March 11, adding another chapter to this legal saga’s unfolding narrative.
