Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command on Friday arrested a woman, Hauwa Sani, for attempting to smuggle 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, accompanied by a two-year-old child.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement posted on X.com on Saturday.
According to the statement, the suspect, who hails from Katsina State, was apprehended with ₦78,500 in cash and a mobile phone while trying to transport the ammunition to Katsina.
The statement reads, “On August 23, 2024, at approximately 5:10 pm, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives from the Keffi Division intercepted and arrested Hauwa Sani, a female suspect from Doro village, Katsina State, who was traveling with a two-year-old child.
“Upon inspection, 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition hidden in a gallon of palm oil, along with a Tecno mobile phone and a cash sum of ₦78,500, were recovered from the suspect.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the ammunition was supplied to the suspect in Rafin Sanyi village, located in the Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The suspect then attempted to conceal the items in palm oil while en route to Katsina before being apprehended by law enforcement.
The Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the suspect and the recovered items to the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
