Gboyega Isiaka, the House of Representatives member representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, has voiced grave concern over the reported invasion of the Araromi Ibese community by herdsmen, which led to the destruction of crops and the livelihoods of women farmers.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Media Aide, Femi Peters, Isiaka, fondly called GNI, expressed distress over the devastating impact of the attack, particularly on women farmers whose crops were destroyed, leaving them vulnerable.
The statement highlighted the harrowing experience of one victim, a heavily pregnant woman who, forced to flee for her life, delivered her baby in the bush at night without medical assistance. She later returned to the village, still traumatized. “Mother and child could have died in the process,” the statement noted.
While commending the proactive measures taken by security agencies and community leaders, Isiaka urged them to intensify efforts to prevent further occurrences.
“My attention has been drawn to the grievances of our women in Araromi Ibese over the destruction of their farmlands by Fulani herdsmen,” Isiaka said. “I am appalled by the unchecked onslaught by these herdsmen who are systematically destroying the lifeline of our communities—our farmlands.”
The lawmaker emphasized his commitment to ensuring relief and support for the affected farmers and their families. “The safety and well-being of our constituents are of the utmost importance. We will not rest until the Araromi Ibese farming community is safeguarded from further invasion,” he vowed.
Isiaka called for immediate and effective government intervention to address the situation and restore stability in the community.
