Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has shared key takeaways from his recent meetings with top Indonesian government officials, underscoring the importance of structured policies and decisive leadership in advancing Nigeria’s development.

In a statement posted on X on Monday, Obi detailed his engagements with prominent Indonesian leaders, including former Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Agung Laksono, former Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, and Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, Yandri Susanto. These meetings were part of his strategic visit to the Southeast Asian nation.

Governance Strategies and Policy Execution

During discussions with Laksono, Obi said he gained valuable insights into Indonesia’s governance strategies under former Presidents Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo. He highlighted how Indonesia’s structured planning, meticulous execution, and measurable development targets have contributed to the country’s transformation.

"My discussions with Agung Laksono provided critical insights into the governance models of both administrations, showcasing how strategic planning and political determination can drive national progress," Obi stated.

Similarly, in his meeting with Jusuf Kalla, Indonesia’s only Vice President to serve under two different presidents, Obi noted that the country’s success in achieving broad-based development stemmed from strong leadership and unwavering commitment.

“The achievements of these leaders were made possible through a focused commitment approach and decisive leadership,” Kalla emphasized during their discussions.

Rural Development and Economic Transformation

Obi also engaged with Yandri Susanto, Indonesia’s Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, who outlined the nation’s structured approach to rural development.

According to what YEPS News learned, Susanto explained that Indonesia has implemented a data-driven strategy to uplift rural communities, ensuring targeted progress in education, healthcare, and small business support. The system categorizes villages from extremely underdeveloped to self-sufficient, allowing for a phased and strategic transformation.
