The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to enhance its domestic drone technology capabilities through a strategic partnership with Loong UAV, a global leader in tactical drone solutions based in China.
Dr. Joseph Tegbe, Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), led the Nigerian delegation in discussions with Loong UAV representatives. According to Tegbe, the collaboration aims to advance Nigeria’s drone technology sector while opening doors to broader opportunities for cooperation.
“This partnership with Loong UAV is set to strengthen Nigeria’s domestic drone technology capabilities, improving access to essential services and commodities in remote or difficult-to-reach areas,” Tegbe stated.
He added that the innovative application of drones could significantly enhance Nigeria’s logistics infrastructure, fostering economic growth and development.
Positioning Nigeria as a Key Industrial Player
Tegbe emphasized that the agreement with Loong UAV is part of broader efforts to position Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s industrialisation. He noted, “These agreements and investments underscore the NCSP’s commitment to driving socio-economic transformation in Nigeria through targeted Chinese partnerships.”
Expanding Collaboration with China
In addition to drone technology, Tegbe highlighted other collaborative efforts with Chinese companies and the government. These include:
- Enhancing smart and qualitative education.
- Upgrading healthcare delivery systems.
- Strengthening communications technology and security infrastructure.
- Digitalising key government facilities.
Plans are also underway to renovate and equip selected teaching hospitals across the country.
Investments in Renewable Energy
Tegbe also announced a partnership with the Chilwee Group, a prominent Chinese manufacturer of advanced batteries and power storage solutions. This collaboration aims to bolster Nigeria’s energy security, promote renewable energy adoption, and reduce carbon emissions.
“Chilwee Group has committed to investing in Nigeria through a holistic approach, including sales, manufacturing, and exploring local raw materials for the power storage value chain,” Tegbe revealed.
These strategic partnerships with China in technology, manufacturing, and energy sectors are expected to drive Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation, further solidifying bilateral relations between the two nations.
