The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party has condemned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for orchestrating the nationwide picketing of its party secretariats, denouncing it as an abuse of power.

In response to the NLC’s directive to mobilize workers and besiege LP secretariats across the country, the Labour Party’s NWC asserted that such actions are unwarranted and counterproductive. The circular issued by the NLC’s Political Commission, signed by Titus Amba and Chris Uyot, called for the immediate resignation or removal of Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, citing alleged financial mismanagement and disrespect towards the union president, Joe Ajaero.

Protests erupted outside the LP national headquarters in Abuja, with NLC members chanting slogans and demanding the ouster of the party’s leadership. However, security personnel thwarted their attempts to access the party secretariat, maintaining order in the area.

Kennedy Ahanotu, the Labour Party’s National Youth Leader, expressed disappointment with the NLC’s approach, emphasizing that it is improper for a movement representing the masses to picket a political party. Ahanotu accused the NLC leadership of displaying partisanship through their actions, urging them to focus on addressing pressing workers’ issues instead.
