The National Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (NALG) has advised the 774 local council leaders nationwide to refrain from endorsing the ongoing Hunger Demonstrations taking place across the country.

Various youth organizations have scheduled protests from August 1 to 10 to voice their concerns about the economic hardships facing citizens.

During a media briefing in Lafia on Thursday, NALG President Aminu Mu’azu-Maifata explained that the association opted not to back the demonstrations due to their confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s positive agenda for Nigerians.

“We call on all local council chairpersons to recognize the numerous initiatives and policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aimed at fostering economic growth and improving the lives of our citizens.

“These initiatives include agricultural support programs, low-interest business loans, educational financial assistance, and the recent push for local government autonomy, which will enhance the ability of local councils to fulfill their constitutional duties and provide essential services to grassroots communities.”
