The Lagos State Taskforce has confiscated 128 commercial motorcycles, widely known as Okadas, for flouting operational restrictions in various parts of the state.
This was revealed by the Taskforce Chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele, in a statement released on Sunday.
Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Director of Press and Public Affairs for the Taskforce, signed the statement, highlighting that the motorcycles were seized during enforcement operations in Sabo Ikorodu, Berger, and Ikon. These areas are among the zones where Okada operations are officially banned.
Akerele emphasized the Taskforce’s zero-tolerance policy for illegal motorcycle operations, warning that both riders and passengers who violate the ban will face prosecution.
“Passengers on Okada are equally culpable as the riders,” he stated.
“Anyone caught will be held accountable under the law. The Lagos State Taskforce is dedicated to upholding regulations to keep Lagos roads safe and accessible.”
He further urged residents to comply with the law, underscoring that these measures aim to protect lives and property across the state.
Akerele also disclosed that all 128 impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the State Government following a court order.
