The hunt is on for the perpetrators behind the tragic killing of four young individuals from the Abacheke community in Imo State’s Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area. The incident, which shook the community to its core, occurred when gunmen, donning military camouflage, descended upon the area, unleashing a barrage of gunfire that claimed the lives of the youths and left one person injured.
Imo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, condemned the heinous act, revealing that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has directed a comprehensive manhunt to bring the culprits to justice. The Command has mobilized its Special Tactical Squad and is collaborating with other security agencies to apprehend the fleeing suspects responsible for this senseless violence.
According to Okoye, the attackers struck swiftly, riding motorcycles and firing indiscriminately, resulting in five residents sustaining serious injuries. Despite the prompt response of the Area Commander and tactical teams, four victims tragically succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at the hospital, while one survivor is currently undergoing medical treatment.
While efforts are underway to restore calm in the affected area, the police are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the identities of the perpetrators and ensure they face the full force of the law. The Commissioner of Police extends heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, affirming the commitment to pursue justice relentlessly.
The public, especially residents of Ohaji/Egbema, are urged to come forward with any valuable information that could aid the investigation, emphasizing the collective responsibility in combating violent crimes. Together, let us join hands to eradicate such atrocities from our communities and uphold peace and security in the state.
