Reports gathered by YEPS News reveal that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has introduced a comprehensive policy directive aimed at elevating police professionalism and ensuring uniform investigative standards across the country.
According to Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, who addressed the media on Thursday, the directive follows a high-level conference with heads of police investigation units nationwide. The initiative seeks to refine investigative procedures and equip personnel with the essential skills and expertise needed for effective criminal investigations.
Key measures outlined in the directive include a structured system for mobilizing and demobilizing police personnel within and outside criminal investigation departments. Furthermore, specialized detective training has been made mandatory for all investigative officers, with successful participants receiving official certification and recognition as detectives.
YEPS News also gathered that all personnel within investigative units will now be required to attend annual detective workshops and participate in training programs at the Force Intelligence Training School in Share, Kwara State.
Additionally, the IGP has mandated the strict enforcement of the Child Rights Act 2003 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, emphasizing the police force’s role in safeguarding minors.
“This initiative underscores the IGP’s commitment to enhancing the quality of police investigations and ensuring the highest standards of professionalism in law enforcement,” Adejobi stated.
