In Ibadan, the vibrant capital of Oyo State, young voices rose in protest on Monday, echoing the frustrations felt by many over the challenging economic conditions.

Gathering around the bustling Mokola area, these impassioned demonstrators held up bold placards bearing messages of urgency and demand. Phrases like “End food hike and inflation,” “The poor are starving,” and “Tinubu, don’t forget your promises” adorned their signs, speaking volumes about their grievances.

Despite the intensity of their expressions, the atmosphere remained peaceful, with vigilant policemen ensuring the safety of both protesters and bystanders.

This demonstration follows similar expressions of discontent seen earlier in Suleja, Niger State, where residents took to the streets to voice their concerns about the soaring cost of living.

Eyewitnesses, like Mr. Yazid Abubakar, recounted scenes of frustration along the bustling Moroko Road, the heartbeat of the town’s largest market. Among the sea of banners waved by the crowd were slogans such as “Leadership is all about improving the life of the masses” and “Nigerians are suffering, stop the hardship now.”

These protests reflect a broader sentiment of discontent fueled by economic challenges. With inflation soaring to 29.90% as of January and the local currency’s value dwindling to around N1,500 per dollar, the burden of rising prices weighs heavily on the shoulders of many, threatening their livelihoods and well-being.
