Veteran musician Charly Boy shared the dramatic saga of his intervention in the heated clash between Nigerian artist Eedris Abdulkareem and American rapper 50 Cent back in 2004.
During the latest episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the 73-year-old icon recounted how he sprang into action upon receiving a distress call from Abdulkareem, who reported being manhandled by 50 Cent’s bouncers.
Charly Boy vividly recalled abandoning his own tasks, including styling his hair, to rally support for Abdulkareem. With his commanding presence and influence, he swiftly mobilized nearly three thousand motorcyclists to converge on the Murtala Muhammed Airport, where Abdulkareem was stranded.
“Back then, if I was walking past the motorcycle park and I waved my hand, all the motorcyclists would follow me. So, I stormed the airport with almost 3000 bikes,” Charly Boy recounted.
Upon arriving at the scene, Charly Boy wasted no time in confronting the situation head-on. He listened as Abdulkareem recounted the harrowing incident: being accosted by 50 Cent’s bouncers for occupying first-class seating on the plane, which escalated into a violent altercation.
With steely determination, Charly Boy marched towards 50 Cent’s SUV, where the rapper was stationed. Despite the tension crackling in the air, fueled by the presence of the motorcycle convoy and Charly Boy’s unwavering resolve, he fearlessly confronted 50 Cent.
In a moment charged with intensity, Charly Boy admonished 50 Cent for his actions, boldly declaring, “You are the one beating my people in their own country? You came to Nigeria and you are beating my people.”
To Charly Boy’s surprise, 50 Cent offered a swift apology in response to his impassioned confrontation, diffusing the volatile situation and bringing a sense of resolution to the chaotic scene.
Charly Boy’s courageous intervention stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to defending and protecting his fellow artists, ensuring that justice prevails even in the face of adversity.
