The Dangote Group has refuted recent claims suggesting that the company sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) at a rate of N898 per litre. These allegations, attributed to NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, have been described by the Dangote Group as “misleading and mischievous.”
In a press release issued on Sunday, Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communications Officer for Dangote Group, emphasized that the claims were intended to undermine the company’s recent achievements in tackling Nigeria’s long-standing energy crisis.
Chiejina explained, “This misleading statement appears aimed at derailing the progress made on September 15, 2024, in addressing the nation’s energy insufficiency and insecurity issues, which have affected the economy for over 50 years.”
He urged Nigerians to dismiss the report, noting that an official pricing announcement would be made by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, set to begin on October 1, 2024, under the guidance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Chiejina also pointed out that the current crude stock sold to NNPC was procured in dollars, resulting in significant cost savings compared to previous import prices.
He further assured Nigerians that this development would ensure the availability of petrol in every corner of the country, regardless of location, and ultimately put an end to the recurring fuel scarcity.
“We are committed to providing quality petroleum products and resolving the nation’s fuel supply issues,” Chiejina concluded.
