The management of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, has announced the formation of a three-member committee to collaborate with the police and assist in identifying the assailants responsible for the recent killing of a student at the institution.
Earlier, the Osun State Police Command confirmed that its detectives had launched an investigation to uncover the identities of those who fatally stabbed a 200-level student, identified only as Paul, from Bowen University.
The police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, shared that the incident was reported at the Iwo Divisional Headquarters last Wednesday at approximately 10:55 pm.
Opalola explained that the deceased, a student in the Department of Computer Science, was tragically killed by unknown assailants. She said, “On 22/01/2025, at about 10:55 pm, Akindoyo Joseph, the CSO of Bowen University, reported to Iwo Police Divisional Headquarters that Paul Thinker, a 200-level Computer Science student, was stabbed by one or more unknown persons.”
In response to the incident, Bowen University’s Public Relations Officer, Havillah Aliyu, expressed the management’s gratitude for the police’s prompt reaction when contacted. Aliyu also confirmed that the family of the deceased student held a meeting with the university management on campus last Thursday. He noted that while normalcy was gradually returning to the campus, the mood remained one of cautious hope as they awaited swift justice for the perpetrators of this heinous act.
Aliyu added, “Management is pleased with the police’s quick response and professionalism, and we are hopeful that the culprits will be caught soon.”
He continued, “While the police are leading the investigation, a three-person committee was quickly established following an emergency Senate meeting on Thursday, 23 January 2025. This committee, fully supported by management, is tasked with gathering information and working closely with the police.”
To enhance campus security, the university management has taken proactive measures, including increasing security personnel and coordinating with the police and other relevant agencies to intensify patrols around the campus.
