Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has distributed 31 tractors and various farm inputs to farmers across the state, signaling his administration’s commitment to boosting agricultural production and ensuring food security.
Speaking at the event in Aisu town, Ede, on Friday, Adeleke emphasized that his government is dedicated to providing the necessary infrastructure and resources to enhance farming activities and support the livelihoods of the people.
“Today, we are distributing 6,000 herbicides, 80,000 cashew seedlings, 8,000 cassava cuttings, and 8,000 vegetable seeds,” Adeleke announced. “Additionally, we are providing 500 bags of lime to farmers, women’s associations, people living with disabilities, and government schools with extensive farmlands.”
He also unveiled 31 newly purchased tractors, equipped with full implements, as part of the first phase of the project. These tractors will be allocated to farmers’ cooperative societies and associations once the necessary administrative procedures are completed.
“This initiative aligns with the promise we made to our vibrant youth during the End Bad Governance protests,” Adeleke noted.
The governor further revealed that the state government is committing an additional N8 billion for the acquisition of more tractors and farm-clearing equipment, in accordance with due process. Furthermore, N2 billion worth of farm input support will be provided to strengthen agricultural efforts.
Reflecting on his administration’s progress, Adeleke highlighted that in less than two years, significant strides have been made in addressing the 5-Point Action Plan he set forth at the beginning of his term.
“From the onset, we crafted our policy objectives and designed a roadmap to achieve them, known as the 5-Point Action Plan,” Adeleke explained. “Our goals include the welfare of workers, financial inclusion, localization, people-focused infrastructure development, social sector enhancement, and agro-industrialization.”
The governor underscored his commitment to making substantial investments in the agricultural sector, recognizing its critical role in improving the lives of the people. “No leader with a conscience can be content when his people struggle to make ends meet and feed their families. We are determined to meet our targets in this crucial sector and are prepared to invest accordingly,” he concluded.
