Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, assured residents of Gbepakan village in Saki West Local Government that the state government is committed to their safety following a deadly attack by unidentified assailants on Tuesday.

YEPS.NG reports that the attack resulted in several fatalities among the village’s residents.

During an on-the-spot assessment visit on Thursday, Lawal emphasized that the government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, remains steadfast in its efforts to secure lives and property across the state, backed by substantial investments in security.

Lawal assured the affected residents that the government would provide immediate relief materials to help them cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.

“We are here to assess the situation and extend our condolences following the tragic incident that claimed the lives of about 10 residents. This visit is also to reaffirm that such attacks will not be tolerated in Oyo State. We believe in a unified Nigeria where people can live, work, and conduct their businesses in peace,” said Lawal.

He reiterated that the state opposes any form of tribal or ethnic discrimination, emphasizing that the government is committed to rooting out criminality. “We will thoroughly investigate this incident, and those responsible will face justice,” he added.

Lawal also mentioned that the state’s Commissioner of Police has initiated an investigation into the incident.

He was accompanied by several officials, including former Deputy Governor Hamid Gbadamosi, Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investments and Cooperatives Niyi Adebisi, Commissioner for Special Duties Faosat Sanni, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security CP Sunday Odukoya (retd), Chairman of the State Pension Board Rafiu Adekunle, and Chairman of Saki West Local Government Gbenga Akinola.
