Former Head of State, Retired General Abdulsalami Abubakar, is in mourning following the passing of his elder sister, Asabe Abubakar.
The announcement came in a statement on Monday, and Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba expressed condolences to the retired military leader. Asabe Abubakar passed away in Abuja after a brief illness.
Garba described her death as a significant loss, not only for the family but also for the entire state. He expressed regret that her guidance and contributions were no longer available during Governor Umaru Bago’s administration.
Despite the loss, Garba urged the family to accept it as an act of God and prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest in Aljannatul Firdaus while granting the family strength to cope with the loss.
The deputy governor also conveyed shock over the demise of Ibrahim Matane, a former president of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state, emphasizing the significant role he played in advocating for the welfare of local government workers during his leadership. Matane passed away at IBBU Specialist Hospital, Minna, after battling a prolonged illness.
