On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu marked the arrival of Abuja’s first baby of the year at the Asokoro District Hospital. The newborn, Favour Stephen-Odion, a baby girl, was born to Mr. Odion Oyinbo and Mrs. Chioma Odion at exactly 12:27 a.m., weighing 3.6kg.
The First Lady also greeted other newborns at the hospital, including the first baby boy of 2025, Zimchikachim Ejiofor, born to Mr. Ejiofor Nworie and Mrs. Delight at 7:14 a.m., weighing 3kg. As part of her celebration, she presented the babies and their families with baby gifts, including post-natal care products, nutritional supplies, and cash gifts.
Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, the First Lady extended her prayers for the children’s safety and future, wishing them long life, health, and success. She expressed: “I am here to represent the mother of the nation to welcome the first baby of the year and all the other children. I present this token to our dear daughter, wishing her well. Insha Allah, they (the first baby and others) will be the next generation to take over from us. I wish them all the best. Please take good care of her.”
Senator Oluremi Tinubu also took the opportunity to advise new mothers on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, immunization, and timely post-natal care. She reassured them, saying, “Fortunately, this hospital is close to my home, and I trust they will provide the best care for you.”
In addition, the First Lady handed out birth certificates to both the first baby of the year and the first baby boy.
Dr. Rosemary Nwokorie, the acting Chief Medical Director of Asokoro District Hospital, welcomed the First Lady and commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s health sector. She also praised the First Lady and the Vice President’s wife for their work in supporting vulnerable Nigerians through initiatives like the Renewed Hope Initiative, which aims to assist women and children in need.
